I grew up thinking that rubbing alcohol was good for everything, including consumption. However,  as I got older, I learned that the benefits do not transcend external use.

Founded by Pierre Berthelot in 1860, rubbing alcohol is available in two forms; isopropyl which is 70%alcohol and ethanol which contains 70-99% alcohol.

Rubbing alcohol is an antiseptic product that can be used for a wide range of things in and around the home.

That is to say, you may or may not be familiar with some of the uses of rubbing alcohol, this will be useful in providing you with some uses for rubbing alcohol in and around the home.

1. For Back Massages

I just love getting a nice back massage. It’s so soothing and it relieves stress and tension. To use the Rubbing Alcohol to give back massages, spray a little Rubbing Alcohol on the person getting the massage back.

Rub into skin until the area is dry. It can be done again until the desired result is received.

2. Used To Disinfect Sponges

To disinfect washing sponges, soak the sponge in The Rubbing Alcohol for a couple of minutes.  After soaking, remove the sponge and allow it to dry. This will leave your washing sponges clean and refreshed.

3. Used To Clean Makeup Brushes

Cleaning your makeup brushes with Rubbing Alcohol can be so convenient. All you have to do is soak the makeup brushes in about half a cup of Rubbing alcohol. Let it remain there for about half-hour. After soaking, allow them to dry.

They’re now fit for use again! You can repeat this method whenever cleaning. Sanitizing of makeup brushes is necessary.

4. Used As A Jewelry Cleaner

It’s pretty much safe to clean jewelry with Rubbing Alcohol. To do this, you soak the jewelry in Rubbing Alcohol.

Let them stay in the Rubbing Alcohol for a few minutes. After soaking them, wipe them with a clean cloth to make them as good as new.

5. Used As A Hand Sanitizer

Let’s say you are on the road. You have no water or soap to wash your hands, but you have a first aid kit with Rubbing Alcohol and aloe vera gel. You may mix three parts Rubbing Alcohol with one part aloe vera gel to make a hand sanitizer.

After mixing, you place a little in the palm of your hands and rub together. After rubbing, allow to dry.

6.  Used As A Muscle Pain Reliever 

  Have an aching muscle? Rubbing Alcohol is known to be good at relieving muscle aches and pain. To use The Rubbing Alcohol to get rid of muscle aches, you first soak a rag in the Rubbing Alcohol.

After soaking the rag, place the rag over the area that’s aching. The soaked rag can be left on the area until dry or until pain resolves.

7.  Used As A Deodorant

To use Rubbing Alcohol as a deodorant is very simple. You first add The Rubbing Alcohol to a piece of cotton and wipe it underneath your armpits or you may simply just spray the Rubbing Alcohol underneath your armpit. After applying the Rubbing Alcohol, allow drying.

8. Used To Get Rid Of Fruit Flies

Add The Rubbing Alcohol to a spray bottle. Aim at spraying the flies. Spraying the fruits will cause spoilage. Rubbing Alcohol will kill flies on contact.

9.  Used To Clean Smart Phones

Believe it or not, our mobile phones carry a lot of germs. To clean a mobile phone with Rubbing Alcohol, you may use an alcohol pad to wipe the phone. After wiping allow to dry. Now your phone is germ-free!

10.Used To Remove Ink Stains

Not a lot of people are good at removing ink stains. Some persons may even throw away their clothes because of ink stains. To use Rubbing Alcohol to remove stains, place a paper towel under the area with an ink stain.

You can use a syringe to spray the ink-stained area until the ink has completely disappeared. After the ink is gone, rinse clothing in cold water.

11.  Used As A Mirror Cleaner

Rubbing alcohol works like magic when it comes to cleaning the mirror. To use Rubbing Alcohol to clean the mirror, you spray Rubbing Alcohol on the mirror.

Use a clean rag to wipe away smears and grease from the mirror. Some people use newspaper to wipe for extra shine.

12. Used To Remove Permanent Marker Stains

For removing permanent marker stains, put a hand towel under marker stain. Use a sponge or rag to dab around the marker stain. After dabbing around the marker stain, apply Rubbing Alcohol directly on to the marker stain.

You may change the paper towel to prevent marker stain from staying on clothing. After removing marker stain, wash clothing in cold water and allow it to dry.

13. Used To Clean A Dry Erase Board

To clean the dry erase board with rubbing alcohol, you first remove excess marker stains from the board with a rag or paper towel. Secondly, use a rag or sponge that is soaked in Rubbing Alcohol to clean the dry erase board.

This can be done whenever dry erase board gets extra stained with a marker.

14. Used To Clean Sinks

Cleaning sinks with The Rubbing Alcohol couldn’t be easier than this. Remove extra food or grease from the sink. After removing food and grease, use a rag that has been soaked with Rubbing alcohol to wipe sink clean.

This will truly leave your sink looking clean and shiny.

15.  Used To Disinfect Mouse And Keyboards

You may want to use a soft brush to get excess dust off the keyboard first. After removing excess dust, dampen a micro-fiber rag with Rubbing Alcohol. Use dampen rag to wipe keyboard and mouse clean.

16.  Used As A Skin Cleanser

To use Rubbing Alcohol to clean face, you must first wash your face with your regular soap. After washing with regular soap, dab cotton ball with alcohol. Use the cotton ball to gently pat around pimples. Allow the area to dry then apply your regular face moisturizer.

17.  Used As A Cold Sore Treatment

Cold soars sometimes come with swelling. Rubbing Alcohol can be used to reduce the swelling. To do this, you can wet a cotton ball with Rubbing Alcohol and apply it to the area. Rubbing Alcohol may also help to dry up the cold sore.

18. Used To Remove Sticky Labels

To remove sticky labels from surfaces is pretty easy with the use of Rubbing Alcohol. Just add a little Rubbing Alcohol to a rag or any old fabric. After adding the Rubbing Alcohol to the rag rub the surface to remove the sticky label.

19. Used As A Nail Polish Remover

For removal of nail polish from nails with The Rubbing Alcohol soak nails in The Rubbing Alcohol for a few minutes. After soaking nails, add Rubbing Alcohol to a cotton ball and use it to clean nails.

For thicker coats of nail polish, it may take a bit more soaking than with thin coats. After cleaning nail polish from fingers with the Rubbing Alcohol, moisturize hands.

20. Used To Clean Ears

Please note that this remedy should not be used if it’s suspected that you have a middle ear infection. Discontinue the use of this method if discomfort appears.

To make ear drop to clean ears mix equal parts apple cider vinegar with equal parts Rubbing Alcohol. Use a syringe to apple five to ten drops in the infected ear. Cover ear with a clean rag or clean cotton.

Tilt head for about five minutes for the solution to sit in ears.

21. Used to Clean Glasses And Frames

So you don’t have a cleansing cloth to clean your glasses, no problem! You’ve got alcohol and a rag? That works. Just dab rag with alcohol and use the rag to wipe lens and frame. This cleans glasses very well.

To make a cold pack, add one cup of Rubbing Alcohol and two cups of water to a plastic freezer bag. Before sealing the bag, make sure air is eliminated. You may place the plastic freezer bag into another bag to should in case of leaking occurs.

Place the bag in the freezer for about an hour. To avoid stinging from cold pack, place a towel between the cold pack and your skin.

23. Used To Kill Nail Fungus

 Before you use The Rubbing Alcohol to get rid of nail fungus, you must first soak nails in warm soapy water. Remove excess dirt from underneath nails. Dry nails well,  Pour The Rubbing Alcohol in a basin and soak nails for about twenty minutes two times per day.

Be sure to clean any item used in the cleaning process. If items are not cleaned properly, the fungus may reoccur. This should be done for a two week period for fungus to clear up. If there is no sign of fungus getting better, visit your doctor.

24. Used in Cleaning Chrome Fixtures

You don’t have to buy other cleaning solutions to clean chrome fixtures if you have rubbing alcohol. To use Rubbing Alcohol to clean chrome fixtures, spray a little Rubbing alcohol on chrome fixture.

Wipe fixture with a clean rag and allow it to dry. This can be done whenever necessary for shiny chrome fixtures.

25. Used To Soothe Mosquito Bites

 Mosquito bites can be really itchy. To help with itching, you may use a rag dabbed in rubbing alcohol to wipe the area. This will help to soothe the itching area. Be careful not to use too much alcohol, consequently, this may irritate the area.

I’m certain that they’re more uses for the Rubbing Alcohol than what I’ve stated. To sum it all up, rubbing alcohol can be used for antiseptic purposes however it can also be used for other purposes.

Some of the uses of The Rubbing Alcohol are to clean face, to use as deodorant, to help with fungus in the nails, to clean mirrors, for cleaning glasses, for cleaning chrome tops, just to state a few.

It is important to remember that Rubbing Alcohol is not for consumption. It must never be left close to an open flame. Lastly, is best to use a moisturizer on your face after using  Rubbing Alcohol. If irritation occurs, seek medical attention.
